Our Story

Melodie’s grandparents owned a grocery store on Route 66, and her mom spent her early years living behind the store. Melodie’s journey with making jewelry from Cadillac Ranch began when she decided to make her mother something that would always remind her of her family’s legacy and humble roots. Things quickly grew into what is now Yellow City Stone. Each piece is delicately handcrafted from her homebase in Amarillo, TX to reveal intricate, colorful layers of paint. It’s a careful process that is well worth the time and patience it requires.

Our Paint

Since its beginnings in 1974 as a whimsical art installation along Route 66, Cadillac Ranch has grown into a legendary interactive roadside monument and communal artwork. Thousands of visitors every year are encouraged to contribute to the piece, adding layer upon layer of infinite colors, each becoming a part of this unique project.

In 2019 someone set fire to one of the cars at the ranch. The fire caused the paint from that car to peel off onto the ground. The paint was then collected and removed from the site. We have collaborated with Tailfins, LLC — the official Cadillac Ranch group — to reclaim the paint from this particular car.

We understand that the layers of paint on the cars at Cadillac Ranch represent the memories and experiences of countless visitors, and the paint we use leaves those memories and experiences intact.

Our Commitment

Homelessness strips people down to a point of mere survival. While there are agencies set up to provide overnight shelter, food and other necessities, there is a gap between those services and giving those experiencing homelessness a place to truly feel like they belong. The Panhandle Adult Rebuilding Center (PARC) was created to address this gap.

Beginning in 2021, We began donating 10% of every Yellow City Stone purchase to the PARC to support their work and mission. We especially love that art therapy is an important component of the PARC’s approach. We have been involved with volunteering for the PARC, and we hope that we can continue to support them and spread awareness of their incredible work through this connection with our art.
